Karin Malpeso

Clay is my favorite medium; it inspires, provokes and challenges me. The question is more important than the answer. The point of departure is irrelevant; only the journey is essential. Sometimes the journey is brief, sometimes prolonged, and sometimes endless. Just as my life is constantly shifting, so is my work, as forms are being built, broken down, built, and broken down again, like the ever-turning wheel of life.

I derive my inspiration from the natural world and from human nature. For me, all of nature is animated. Each work is a meditation on an idea that might have arisen from a memory, a hunch, a dream, a sound, a sensation, a longing, a shape, a texture or a color.

My process is intuitive and I strive to combine the barely perceptible with the abundantly visible. Like the union of silence and sound, of simplicity and complexity, I connect my intuition with the physical world in the shape of forms, masses, lines, contrasts, and colors.
